![]() ![]() Remedy Games created Alan Wake back on the xbox 360 over a decade ago. It's a linear cinematic shooter that is very much a product of its time.ħ0% PlayStation 5From the creators of control one of my favorite games of the past 3 years. You watch a cutscene, explore a dark forest, find some ammo, shoot some bad guys, repeat. Alan Wake is worth playing for its story but its gameplay left me consistently underwhelmed. The bigger problem with the level design is that about 75% of this game takes place in the dark forest, so there's a serious lack of variety. There's a little bit of driving, which feels great, but I wish there had been more. The levels are very linear but you can always explore for a little extra ammo. Thankfully, the second DLC goes full Inception and is quite good. This problem goes through the roof in the first DLC chapter, which is pure frustration, has no story, and you should absolutely skip. Generally speaking, Alan Wake doesn't know how to be challenging without being bullsh**. Getting sniped by an axe from 30 feet away never stops feeling unfair and the flying object "enemies" are always annoying. These encounters always feel cheap and frustrating. It often spawns enemies out of thin air directly behind you, often in great numbers. It's a pretty easy game for the most part but has some jarring difficulty spikes. You fight the same 5 enemy types over and over, there are no upgrade mechanics, and you lose everything at the beginning of each level. The combat is fun and polished but there's very little depth or variety. Unfortunately, the gameplay can't hold up its end of the deal. The game has a great vibe and a cool setting as well. If you're a fan of psychological thrillers, you're going to love this, particularly if you like Stephen King, Twin Peaks, or Silent Hill. Alan Wake is a good game and a good experience and I really await to see the sequel on the next-gen platform! The 100% trophies are not that hard but you need to be patient and not in a rush, especially for the two trophies from the DLCs which require finishing each DLC in one go without dying or restarting a checkpoint.Ĩ0% PlayStation 59/10 story, 7/10 gameplay. But I still enjoyed it because wanted to get all the trophies. The DLCs were a bit disappointing because didn't understand all the connections and you revisit some levels from the original story even if it's different as a level design. It was still nice to discover the ending although. It was still interesting and I could notice some elements that I discovered in the video game Control which was my first game ever played by the studio Remedy. The story was really mysterious and intriguing but couldn't catch sometimes all the meaning and the metaphors. The dubbing in English was okay but in French, it was horrible and really stereotypical but maybe it was the purpose. I really loved the sound and visual (especially the light effects) atmosphere and the originality of the gameplay despite it being a bit outdated and the animations being old. 70% PlayStation 5This is the first time I discovered this game and it was quite a surprise, to be honest. ![]()
