There are some pitfalls - but if you master them, you can save some money compared to buying a network capable label writer. In addition it was shown, how this remote device can be connected as a network printer to use it on a Mac. This post explained the necessary steps to expose a DYMO LabelWriter 450 with no own network capabilities as a network printer by using the FRITZ!Box as a print server. As versatile as it is fast, the DYMO label printer also prints. The two separate rolls of labels are always ready, printing 4-line standard address labels at a speedy 71 labels per minute. In addition, you can of course use the DYMO software to create and print labels with the vendor provided software. The DYMO LabelWriter 450 Twin Turbo label printer holds two label rolls, so you can print labels and postage even faster without stopping to change rolls. Installing the complete DYMO software installs it and makes it possible to select the DYMO LabelWriter 450 entry. The third topic was, that I did not install the DYMO software in advance.Īs a consequence, there was no suitable driver available. The second pitfall was, that I was not aware that it is necessary to use the HP Jetdirect - Socket entry as protocol.ĭoing some research I found some describtions in the web which stated explicitly this and I can confirm that it works. So make sure that this setting is deactivated like shown in the screenshot below. Unfortunately this setting prevents that the USB connected printer is exposed as network printer. With this setting and an additional piece of software installed, you can use the USB port of the FRITZ!Box on a Windows computer like it would be one of the local machine. The first problem in my setup was, that I previously used the USB port of the FRITZ!Box as a remote USB port. I think it is worth to talk about this to save others some headache. The things explained so far seem to be easy, but there were some pitfalls. Then select the driver of the the DYMO LabelWriter 450. Use the IP or the name of the FRITZ!Box as address and make sure to select HP Jetdirect - Socket as the protocol. To connect the printer, open the printer and scanner system settings to add a new printer. Setup The Network Printer On MacĪs a first step I installed the DYMO software from the website to make sure, that the necessary drivers for the device are available. In fact this is everything which is necessary to make the DYMO LabelWriter 450 available as a network printer. If you navigate to Home Network > USB Devices > Overview it should look similar to the screenshot above. The label writer should automatically show up in the user interface of the router. The label writer is plugged in the USB port of the FRITZ!Box and must be turned on. : Dymo Labels For Labelwriter 450 1-48 of 619 results for 'dymo labels for labelwriter 450' RESULTS DYMO 30252 LW Mailing Address Labels for LabelWriter Label Printers, White, 1-1/8 x 3-1/2, 2 Rolls of 350 5,380 1829 (0.03/Count)37.76 16. It is able to expose a USB connected printer in the local network. The FRITZ!Box comes with the ability to act as a print sever. AVM FRITZ!Box 6660 Cable, but also tested with AVM FRITZ!Box 6490.I decided to check, if there are cheaper ways to make my existing label writer available in the local network. Network capabilities are available with other DYMO products, but at a much higher price. This time I would like to show, how the setup can be pimped to expose the labelling machine as a network printer.įor me this was an interesting topic, because the DYMO LabelWriter 450 is a pure USB printer. We checked with the end user and they say they could print other labels successfully, though they aren't from SAP.Some time ago I wrote a blog post which explained how to use a DYMO LabelWriter 450 on a headless Linux. When printed in Landscape format, the top side of the label lost space and when printed in Portrait, it loses space on the left side of the label. The DYMO LabelWriter 450 Twin Turbo label printer holds two label rolls, so you can print labels and postage even faster without stopping to change rolls. We identified a pattern during out testing though. Now the same printer doesn't print the label properly in portrait format. A few days back we printed a sample label in portrait layout on the same lable printer and it printed fine. We set the window margin on top to 0 and tried printing the labels on a normal printer on A4 paper and it prints fine. So we are losing almost 2 inches of space on top of the label. The issue is that label is printed starting from middle of the page. We used the SAP standard form RM07ETIKETT, however, we had to change the layout to Lanscape as suggested by the user. We are facing a very tricky issue while printing lables using DYMO LableWrite 450 printer.
